Welcome to the Congregation-Based Clinical Pastoral Education of Western New York website.


           Congregation-Based CPE is a continuing education program offered in Western New York that teaches pastoral care and leadership and systems theory for clergy and lay ministers in the church. It is designed for experienced pastors as well as ministers and seminarians new to pastoral work.

     CPE of WNY Announcements:

The Jamestown area unit will begin August 11-12 (Wednesday & Thursday) and run through November 17-18. The group will meet two days per week (Wednesday & Thursday), gemerally every other week. Sessions will be 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some variation to allow for an earlier ending time on Thursdays. The schedule will be as follows: August 11-12, August 25-26, September 1-2, September 15-16, September 29-30, October 13-14, October 27-28,
November 10-11 and November 17-18. Sessions will be held at Falconer United Methodist Church, 201 North Work Street, Falconer, NY 14733.

The Fall/Winter Buffalo group will begin in mid-October and end in late February at the Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center in North Tonawanda. The unit will meet from 2 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Applications are still be accepted for this unit.

Planning is underway for a Congregational-Based CPE unit in the Cortland/Ithaca (NY) area for the summer of 2011. It is not too early to make inquiries into the program or to reserve a place. Contact Bob Spilman ((716) 479-7933) for information.

                         Three units are offered each year, fall/winter unit (Buffalo) from October to February (one day per week), spring unit (Rochester) from March to June (two days every other week) and a summer/fall unit from August to November (two days every other week).            

               Reverend Robert Spilman is the CPE Supervisor. He was certified as a Full Supervisor by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) in 1990. He is an ordained pastor of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Rochester and his M. Div. from Yale University. He completed his theological education at Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Church photo
 
            

This program is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education as a Satellite of Sisters of Charity Hospital, Buffalo

               This program is also offered as a component of the ministry offerings of the Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center of the Niagara Frontier. It is certified for twelve (12) CEU credits by the Eastern District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
