Welcome to the Congregation-Based Clinical Pastoral Education of Western New York website.

          
Congregation-Based CPE is a continuing education program offered in Western New York that teaches pastoral care and leadership and systems theory for clergy and lay ministers in the church. It is designed for experienced pastors as well as ministers and seminarians new to pastoral work.

     CPE of WNY Announcements:

The Site Review Team will be conducting a visit on Sunday, July 10 and Monday, July 11 for the Ten Year Accreditation for the Sisters Hospital CPE program. The Team will be meeting with past CPE students at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 11. The meeting will be in Conference Room 219 in the Seton Building, 2121 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14214. Past students of the Congregation Based CPE program are invited to attend.

The initial CPE unit in the Southern Tier begins in August 2011 and runs through mid-December 2011. The sessions will be held at the Broome County Council of Churches, 3 Osteningo Street, Binghamton, NY 13903-2117. The schedule is Thursday and Friday every other week except for two occasions (in October and early November) when the group will meet on consecutive weeks. The Thursday sessions will meet from noon until 5 p.m. and the Friday sessions will meet fron 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Contact Bob Spilman (716 479-7933) for information.

The 2011 Fall CPE unit will be held in Buffalo. It will be one day per week and will run from December 2011 to April 2012. To inquire about this unit, contact Bob Spilman (716 479-7933) for information.

                         Three units are offered each year, fall/winter unit (Buffalo) from October to February (one day per week), spring unit (Rochester) from March to June (two days every other week) and a summer/fall unit from August to November (two days every other week).            

               Reverend Robert Spilman is the CPE Supervisor. He was certified as a Full Supervisor by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) in 1990. He is an ordained pastor of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Rochester and his M. Div. from Yale University. He completed his theological education at Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Church photo

               This program is also offered as a component of the ministry offerings of the Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center of the Niagara Frontier. It is certified for twelve (12) CEU credits by the Eastern District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
